The Through Positive Eyes global exhibition launched at the Durban Art Gallery in 2016, coinciding with AIDS 2016, the 21st International AIDS Conference. Housed on the upper floor of the Edwardian-domed Durban City Hall, the exhibition brought together photographs and first-person stories by people living with HIV, commissioned works by international artivists, and live storytelling by Durban artivists in the Banishing Stigma Room, a quasi-theatrical environment envisioned by Stan Pressner. Together, these works presented a broad picture of the epidemic, ranging from revealing self-portraits to abstract studies of the emotions and pleasures of daily life with HIV as a chronic illness. During opening week, Drama for Life at the University of the Witwatersrand presented additional performances.
