Through Positive Eyes, Mexico City Metro

Mexico City was the first site of the Through Positive Eyes photo-storytelling project, initially known in Spanish as Una Mirada Positiva. The inaugural workshop, held in June 2008 during the lead-up to the XVII International AIDS Conference, brought together 14 people living with HIV to create photographs and first-person stories about their lives. The resulting work was presented in public venues across Mexico City, including the Mexico City Metro. The UCLA Art & Global Health Center organized the project in partnership with Letra S, with major funding from the Ford Foundation and the University of California Institute for Mexico and the United States (UC MEXUS). UCLA lecturer Janna Shadduck-Hernandez served as Mexico City co-director and workshop producer, and Robert “Bobby” Gordon of the UCLA Art & Global Health Center served as a co-producer.
